What is an official "OpenSciEd Companion Product"?
In the OpenSciEd ecosystem, a Companion Product is a targeted enhancement rather than a full curriculum distribution. Tuva is the first of its kind, designed specifically to bolster data-intensive portions of the curriculum without requiring a platform overhaul.
Does Tuva replace the OpenSciEd curriculum?
No. Tuva is a data layer that works alongside your existing materials. You maintain your current OpenSciEd workflows and simply use Tuva during data-heavy lessons.
Which OpenSciEd units are supported?
Tuva provides a comprehensive Alignment Guide for Middle School (6-8) and High School Biology. The guide is organized by Unit Title and Lesson Number to find the exact dataset or digitized investigation for your daily instruction.
Can students use their own data from OpenSciEd labs?
Yes. Tuva has digitized OpenSciEd investigation worksheets and data tables. Students can input data collected during OpenSciEd labs directly into a custom Tuva interface for instant analysis.
Can students collaborate on the same dataset in real-time?
At the moment, no, students cannot collaborate on the same dataset from two different devices in real-time. This is a feature we are working on. Stay tuned!
Will Tuva work with my version of OpenSciEd?
Yes. The program is universally compatible.
Does Tuva integrate with my LMS?
Tuva supports Single Sign-On (SSO) via Google, Clever, and ClassLink. You can also sync rosters and assign activities directly through Google Classroom, Canvas, and Schoology.
What accessibility standards does Tuva meet?
Tuva is built on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and is committed to WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance. Features include keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader compatibility, and high-contrast displays.
Is there support for Multilingual Learners (MLLs)?
The platform supports 10+ languages and includes a translation widget for lesson instructions, ensuring data literacy is accessible to all students.
Does Tuva work offline?
No. You must be connected to the internet to utilize the Tuva Tools.
Is there a "Print" option for the interactive activities?
The data and graphing tools are inherently digital. However, you may print off PDFs that include the questions if you prefer to have students complete the extended responses "unplugged".
What student data is collected, and why?
Tuva collects basic account information and student learning data, such as responses, activity progress, and created graphs. This information helps personalize learning, support instruction, and improve the program. View Tuva's in-depth Privacy Policy for more information.
Is student data shared or sold to third parties?
Tuva does not sell student data or share personally identifiable student information with third parties. Student data is used only to support learning, while anonymous aggregated data may be used to improve the program. View Tuva's in-depth Privacy Policy for more information.
How do you protect student data?
Tuva protects student data through secure transmission, restricted storage, and regular security reviews. Multiple safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Privacy Policy for more information.
